Are Mini Dental Implants Right for You?

While dental implants are considered the gold standard for tooth replacement, they are not suitable for every patient. Because tooth loss often leads to jawbone deterioration, many people who lose teeth may not have the jawbone tissue necessary to support an implant without a bone graft procedure.

For patients who don't qualify for traditional implants, Drs. John G. Fatse and John S. Scovic offer mini dental implants. These implants are significantly smaller than the traditional option and, as a result, require much less jawbone tissue for support. Patients can receive mini implants without the need for any preliminary treatments. At our Monroe, CT, practice, we can place and restore mini dental implants with crowns, bridges, or full dentures.

Mini dental implants are much smaller in diameter than traditional implants.

Benefits of Mini Dental Implants

Mini dental implants offer a number of advantages for qualifying patients. Due to their smaller size, treatment is typically faster and more streamlined. Where traditional implants require several months of healing in-between visits, mini dental implants can often be placed and restored in a single appointment.

As an additional bonus, patients do not usually need to undergo a bone grafting procedure in preparation for placement. This allows you to save both time and money while still receiving top-tier care.

Do I Qualify for Mini Dental Implants?

Though mini dental implant placement is not as invasive as standard implant placement, it is still considered oral surgery. Therefore, patients considering this option must be in good general health, with no conditions that could impede proper healing. Additionally, individuals should be free from serious oral health issues, such as gum disease and decay. However, we offer a number of other restorative treatments to increase eligibility for mini dental implants, including periodontal therapy.

Our team is committed to providing quality care to all patients.

Mini dental implants are often recommended for longtime denture wearers to stabilize their prostheses. When supported by mini implants, dentures will not shift, slip, or wobble.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Dr. Scovic is a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry,  and has received extensive training in implant procedures. As a result, our patients can undergo every aspect of treatment in one convenient location.

Before your mini implants can be placed, your doctor must take x-rays and scans to assess the health of the jawbone. At our practice, we use a cone beam computed tomography (CT) scanner, which allows the doctor to plan accurate treatment. Impressions will also be taken in order to fabricate your custom restoration, which will be connected to your new implants.

Mini dental implant placement is usually performed under local anesthesia. However, we also offer nitrous oxide sedation so patients can feel more comfortable and relaxed during the procedure. Next, your doctor will carefully make incisions in the gums and jawbone in order to place the implants. Finally, the custom restoration is attached to the implant posts.

Enjoy Your New Smile as Soon as Possible
