What Is BOTOX Cosmetic?
BOTOX Cosmetic is the injectable form of a protein known as botulinum toxin that inhibits nerve transmitters and limits muscle movement. It has been adapted for cosmetic purposes to temporarily reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. A BOTOX Cosmetic treatment can address:
- Forehead furrows, frown lines, and lip lines
- Wrinkles at the corners of the eyes or around the nose
- Fallen corners of the mouth
- A gummy smile
By immobilizing the muscles under wrinkles and preventing them from contracting, BOTOX Cosmetic can smooth your skin and create a more youthful appearance.
What Is a Dermal Filler?
Dermal fillers can restore volume to your face and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Aging causes a reduction in skin elasticity and volume. These factors can cause smile lines and other wrinkles to become more apparent. Dermal fillers can:
- Soften wrinkles and facial creases
- Improve the appearance of scars
- Enhance contours
- Volumize thin lips
This treatment is very helpful when it comes to dealing with early signs of aging and can create a more aesthetically pleasing frame for your smile.
If you want a way to enhance the effects of your cosmetic dentistry treatment. or if you are interested in a more youthful appearance, an injectable skin treatment may be right for you.
Your Injectable Treatment
Before treatment, you can discuss your goals and concerns with our team. We can help you decide between the different injectable options we have available. The processes of administering BOTOX Cosmetic and dermal fillers are very similar.
When you are ready to begin, a member of our team will ensure the treatment area is clean using an antibiotic cleanser. We may also apply an anesthetic ointment to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Next, we can inject the BOTOX Cosmetic or filler into the treatment areas. Depending on your treatment, the process can take as little as 15 minutes.
Aftercare and Recovery
Your recovery time will vary depending on the type of injectable used. Most patients who receive BOTOX Cosmetic or a dermal filler treatment return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, we recommend avoiding strenuous activities for 24 to 48 hours to protect your results.
Ice and over-the-counter pain medications are typically sufficient to address any discomfort caused by the procedure. For BOTOX Cosmetic patients, it is important not to bend over for long periods of time as this may cause the BOTOX Cosmetic to migrate and lead to facial weakness or drooping. Our team can provide you with more detailed recovery instructions after your treatment.
